This morning, Latino Rebels founder Julio Ricardo Varela, was on Cheddar via Skype for an interview on the immediate aftermath of Ricardo Rosselló’s resignation and the events that led up to it.
“Yesterday was perhaps one of the most intense, ridiculous, almost embarrassing days to be a Puerto Rican journalist,” Ricardo Varela said. “The governor played a lot of games,” he added.
Ricardo Varela is referring to the uncertainty over at what time the governor would address the island, after an initial announcement was made that a message from La Fortaleza in San Juan would come at 5 p.m.—the governor resigned after 11:40 p.m.
During the conversation, Ricardo Varela also pointed out that while Rosselló released a pre-recorded video announcing his resignation, there was yet to be an official resignation letter. The letter was finally shared on Thursday afternoon by House Speaker Carlos “Johnny” Méndez via Twitter.
