Today the North Carolina Department of Transportation announced that it would be begin to issue driver licenses to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) individuals on March 25. However, according to a North Carolina Spanish-language outlet, the license is already raising serious concerns, since it will be different from a regular state license. Clearly different. Here is the image that the outlet shared:
According to the article, the DACA drivers licenses will have a header and vertical fuchsia design, unlike regular licenses that have a blue header and are horizontal. The licenses will also contain the following text: “limited term” and “no lawful status.” The words “Deferred Action” will also apear on the licenses. On the back of the licenses, it will indicate that the individual does not have “legal status” and it will also include the expiration date of their “lawful presence” as determined by the Department of Homeland Security.
