Here’s something that we doubt you have seen a lot in media these days: deportation stories involving people who are not from Mexico or Central America. Take the case of John Cunningham, a 38-year-old undocumented Irish citizen who’s been living in Boston and came to the United States in 1999. According to Irish Central, Cunningham was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last Friday. He is considered a community leader about Boston’s Irish immigrant population.
ICE shared this with Irish Central, “Cunningham is currently in ICE custody pending removal from the United States. Visa waiver program participants waive their rights to a hearing before an immigration judge and they are subject to mandatory detention.”
The report also said that news of Cunningham’s arrest has Boston’s Irish community worried about President Trump’s crackdown policy.
