Latino Rebels Radio is back with a new episode. As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane María nears, the victims of the worst storm in the history of modern Puerto Rico have become political fodder for President Trump. Host Julio Ricardo Varela retracks the origins of how we get here and also speaks to one of the researchers from the Milken Institute School of Public Health about its recent study about the hurricane’s death toll.
The interview with ‘Latino Rebel’ founder Julio Ricardo Verala, regarding the U.S. response (or lack thereof) to Hurricane Maria and the relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States was spot on!
Verala clearly outlined the current status of the island as a ‘territory or pocession’ of the U S. Congress as opposed to the mistaken perception by many in the U.S. of it being a soveriegn nation or ‘country’. He clearly lays out the historical, territorial, political, social, economic status of Puerto Rico in real time!
Kudos to Mr. Verala for his ‘no holds bar’ perspective of the Puerto Rican reality on the island relative to the United States.
