On Friday, Digital Media Editor Amanda Alcántara of Futuro Media (which produces Latino Rebels, Latino USA and In The Thick) was on Democracy Now!, breaking down what has been going on in the Dominican Republic. On February 16, the nation’s Central Electoral Board abruptly canceled its municipal elections following reports of glitches in the voting machines.
Since then, protesters have taken to the streets, demanding answers and raising concerns against the ruling party, which has been in power for over 18 years. For Dominicans, this is all part of a bigger historical precedent, and Alcántara has been on top of this story for Latino Rebels and Latino USA since the protests began.
