It took another Sunday to get it done, but the results from Puerto Rico’s 2020 primaries are in, and as with any major election, there are big losers (hello, current governor of Puerto Rico) and winners (like the island’s fiscal control board). For this special Primary Night episode, host Julio Ricardo Varela welcomes guest Federico A. de Jesús, a Puerto Rican political commentator who was part of President Obama’s Hispanic media team.
As of August 16 at 11 p.m. ET, these were the results for governor for each of the island’s two major parties:
Pro-Statehood New Progressive Party (PNP)—About 80% of precincts reported
Pro-Commonwealth Popular Democratic Party (PPD)—About 70% of precincts reported
