Dr. Kim Potowski is a professor of Spanish linguistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, with appointments in Latin American and Latino studies. Her 2016 book, IntraLatino Language and Identity: MexiRican Spanish, discusses the differences between Mexican Spanish and Puerto Rican Spanish, the Mexican and Puerto Rican communities in Chicago, and how MexiRicans —the children of a Mexican parent and a Puerto Rican parent— think of and express their identities.
