SF Theater Drops María Conchita Alonso for Support of Former Minuteman Running for CA Gov

What did actress/singer María Conchita Alonso think was going to happen after getting slammed for a YouTube video she did with Tim Donnelly, a former Minuteman who is running for governor of California? She really thought that should would not face backlash, especially since Donnelly is considered to be one of the most despised California politicians by many of the state’s Latinos?

First consequence: a San Francisco theater has dropped Alonso from their performance. Here is what CBS San Francisco said:

The actress was to perform next month at the Brava Theater Center in San Francisco’s Mission District in a Spanish-language version of “The Vagina Monologues,” scheduled for a run from February 14th through 17th. The show is being produced by none other than Eliana Lopez, wife of San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.

“We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately,” Lopez told KPIX 5. She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.

“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Lopez said.

Alonso received an earful from listeners of Spanish-language radio station KIQI 1010 AM in San Francisco on Friday, after she said in an interview that she supported many of Donnelly’s views on illegal immigration. Several listeners took her to task after she used the term “illegal” to describe undocumented immigrants.

Then there is the whole issue of Donnelly, who was a former Minuteman. And if you check out his own campaign site, here’s what Donnelly has to say:

Immigration: As our border remains ever more porous, the costs of illegal immigration continue to mount. The legislature cuts our education and law enforcement budgets yet passes horrific entitlements costing us billions! This is above all a rule-of-law issue. Instead of punishing those who have entered our country illegally, our state’s leaders have chosen to create greater incentives for this illegal behavior including free healthcare, free education, and now free college. While the rest of the legislature was on recess, I spent my vacation leading the campaign to overturn the California DREAM Act, the bill that would give those illegal immigrants free taxpayer funded college tuition money. In my first year in office, I introduced legislation to bring SB 1070, the Arizona Law, to California and stop sanctuary cities—jurisdictions that refuse to enforce immigration laws.

And so on and so on. Meanwhile, it looks like Alonso might be regretting her decisions, now that the social media and community reaction to her support of Donnelly has reached a fever pitch. Hell, she even tweeted us:
