For a second, we really thought that this was all fake, but alas, it is not. It all started with this tweet:
The Lakewood Shopper uses actor @IAmLuisGuzman‘s pic instead of Druglord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s. @BuzzFeedAndrew pic.twitter.com/DXRUv8VeBD
— Malei Rikud (@MaleiRikud) March 5, 2014
That tweet led to a story by Elite Daily, which explains:
As pointed out by Malei Rikud on Twitter, the Lakewood Shopper, an Orthodox Jewish newspaper from Lakewood, New Jersey, reported the capture of Mexican cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s capture.
Instead of using El Chapo’s photo, however, the Shopper used the mug of Luis Guzman, everyone’s favorite actor from the Lower East Side of New York City, known for his roles in “Carlito’s Way” and “How To Make It In America.”
So we checked it again, and it was true.
So true that Guzmán’s Twitter profile responded to Rikud:
@MaleiRikud watch your backs motha fuckas
— Luis Guzman (@IamLuisGuzman) March 5, 2014
And then Guzmán tweeted this:
Lakewood Shopper you owe me a fuckin apology!!! Wtf
— Luis Guzman (@IamLuisGuzman) March 6, 2014
Looks like Guzmán is still waiting for that apology. Meanwhile, some of the comments we are getting are hilarious, but this is the best one. Looks like Reuters did the same thing:
