Atlanta Rapper 21 Savage has been released on bond, his lawyers said in a statement via Twitter. The Grammy-nominated artist was detained on Sunday, February 3 by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for allegedly overstaying his visa. His lawyers say that he is grateful for the community’s support.
We are happy to announce that today #21Savage was released on bond, thanks to the efforts of his legal team. He won his freedom. He is grateful for the support of the community and looks forward to joining his loved ones and to continue making music that brings people together.

The news comes less than two days after the Grammy Awards, where 21 Savage was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Performance for his feature on Post Malone’s song “Rockstar.” His mother got tickets to go to the awards in his place, and chose not to go in protest of her son’s detention. During the awards, producer Ludwig Göransson mentioned 21 Savage during his acceptance speech. “He should be here” he said of 21 Savage, née She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph.
Advocacy organizations and celebrities have been speaking up in support of the 26-year-old performer, just earlier today Mic released a video where Kendrick Lamar, Sza, America Ferrera and others showed their support.

A petition to stop the deportation of 21 Savage has over 460,000 signatures.
