In the first battleground state political poll from Futuro Media that spans three key states and issues important to the U.S. Latino community, Florida governor Ron DeSantis has the highest favorable rating with the state’s Latino voters in the leadup to the 2022 midterms.

A Texas sheriff on Monday opened an investigation into two flights of migrants sent to Martha’s Vineyard by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, but did not say what laws may have been broken in putting 48 Venezuelans on private planes last week from San Antonio.

Migrants released from U.S. custody while they seek asylum are being sent by Border Patrol agents without notice to offices and other places that don’t have space for them. Because the addresses appear on migrants’ paperwork, important notices may later be sent there.

The mysterious woman who allegedly lured dozens of migrants on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ flights to Martha’s Vineyard from San Antonio has been identified by several media outlets as Perla H. Huerta, a former combat medic and U.S. Army counterintelligence agent living in Tampa.

Forty-five House Democrats sent a letter Friday to Attorney General Merrick Garland requesting the Justice Department look into a “political stunt” by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), after DeSantis took credit for sending 48 Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Vineyard last week.

Last month, Venezuelans surpassed Guatemalans and Hondurans to become the second-largest nationality stopped at the U.S. border after Mexicans. Venezuelans were stopped 25,349 times, up 43 percent from 17,652 in July and four times the 6,301 encounters in August 2021, authorities said Monday, signaling a remarkably sudden demographic shift.
