UPDATE: The owner claims her email was hacked.
This week on Facebook, Vanessa Hernández Juárez, a member of UCal Berkeley’s Chican@/Latin@ Architecture Student Association, posted an email exchange she had with Sachi Landscape, a local Berkeley company. The email says it all:
Are you joking? Go ask a Latino based org. I am not interested in assisting anyone from a Latino based org. Its racist to even ask and frankly my business has [been] ruined by fucking illegal immigrants. Are we clear! Don’t ever email this address again. If there weren’t so many damn illegal immigrants in this state, i would have work for myself. Now piss off!
According to Hernández Juárez, she is working with her counselor to see draft a letter of support with faculty. She also posted that they “are looking for legal ramifications towards this company and therefore ask everyone that as of now not engage with the company.”
The owner of Sachi Landscape is Shale Well. We emailed the Sachi account this morning for comment, but have yet to receive a response.
By the way, one thing we found out today about all this. Our Pocho.com amigo Lalo Alcaraz is a CASA alum and he just shared his thoughts about it all.

Adela Martinez have you forgotten this country was founded on “illegal immigration” and “open borders” ! Seems like you are blind or ignoring the racism and ignorant statement made by the person representing this Sachi Company. Honey .. your brown ass would be stereo typed any day in a non-latino neighborhood … dont you forget it!
Having the honor to work the past few years with the benefit plans originally created by Cesar Chavez and the chance to learn much of the history of the social movement that Cesar was the foremost (not sole) leader of – I can assure you that while there was a long history of arguments including within the UFW as to how those who immigrated may have been used by employers to exploit the situation for those who were native born or who had successfully immigrated. The issue for Cesar Chavez and his peers was never over race – it had to do with how best to deal with employer exploitation.
There is no excuse for the ugly response to a polite inquiry – we have far too many who justify outrageous behavior on the subject of immigration – and unfortunately we have too many elected officials and media personalities who foment such behavior.
Most of California – indeed most of the US today was not a part of the United States until after the Louisiana Purchase and California in particular has a centuries old tradition of families that lived and worked on both sides of today’s border. It is only very recently that certain folks in the US have suddenly demonized people whose forbears traveled freely between what is now Mexico and what is now California – at least two centuries before people like myself arrived in California. I consider myself fortunate to be allowed to live here but frankly it would be easy to categorize me as the true immigrant – not the other way around.
And most of my ancestors were treated poorly when they first arrived from Western Europe (indluding the UK).
I always feel flattered when a young person and/or students ask to visit with me and my counterparts.
I only hope the students at UC Berkeley – all of them – know that this person does not represent most of us and we are appalled by his response.
Why would they seek legal ramifications against the company? Free speech is free speech and the fact is the American landscapers have had their businesses ruined by illegal immigrants.
PatrickPine But this person is making a valid point that labor in certain areas like landscaping, meatpacking and janitorial have lowered wages for American citizens.
bossladymimz No it wasn’t and the fact is when will it stop? We have 320 million people here. That’s enough.
If his company is doing any public work they should lose their
contracts–any none profit, city, county, state or federal funds should never
go to fund any of their projects. Their
only clients should be assholes and the KKK. Also effective immediately their work which they claim help
people harmonize the relationships they have with their environments will now
only bring dissonance.

Adela Martinez studied in Florida. Enough said.
John bowman and the United States is number one in the most obese.

[…] From Latino Rebels: A landscape architecture company upset with illegal aliens affecting his livelihood blew up on ‘latino’ students at UC Berkeley who wanted to visit his firm. It sounds like illegal immigration is destroying the livelihoods of Americans who do in fact do these jobs that ‘no Americans would ever want to do’ […]
Illegal immigrants from any country taking American jobs are JOB POACHING. How can you justify that it is OK to take American jobs, competing with an American that pays insurance, taxes, etc for his workers? Show me an illegal alien that pays insurance and taxes. You won’t find one, because he and his workers have no SSN. I’m sure most of you pro-Latino cowards on this site that are or were a member of your racist club at Cal got into Cal because you are Hispanic, on a subsidized tuition, paid for by US citizens. Given this possibility, you have the nerve to trash Americans and their business in an attempt to ruin their livelihood? Either shit or get off the pot. If you don’t want to truly be an American then GTFO and fix the shithole of a country you call your homeland.
really? looks how they disgust chinese, asian etc is same the story here. Karma
